Enfield mayor reads proclamation outside the civic centre as crowd watches
The proclamation of King Charles III has been read in Enfield by the mayor.
Mayor Doris Jiagge read the proclamation outside Enfield Civic Centre this afternoon (Sunday 11th).
King Charles III took the throne upon the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday. She had reigned for 70 years.
The proclamation is a statement confirming King Charles III as monarch and it is tradition for it to be read aloud by local leaders across the country.
In attendance for the ceremony in Enfield were councillors, local MPs and other local dignitaries. Reading the proclamation, Cllr Jiagge was flanked by council chief executive Ian Davis, leader of the Conservative group Alessandro Georgiou, and cabinet member for health and social care Alev Cazimoglu, who was standing in for the council leader.
The proclamation was watched by a crowd of a couple of hundred people, who all joined in afterwards by singing the national anthem, God Save The King.
Following the proclamation, the dignitaries laid flowers in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
