The top job for Enfield Council has been advertised for £185,000.

Current leader Rob Leak is reportedly coming up to retirement and the post of chief executive for Enfield Council has been advertised for a six figure sum.

The advert on Municipal Journal reads: “We believe that by taking an innovative and enterprising approach, we can continue to deliver high quality services for our residents despite the ongoing financial pressures.

“We have high expectations of our new Chief Executive and will expect financial dexterity to match your commitment to our social values.”

The advertised role is less than the £190,000 the Enfield Independent reported that Mr Leak was paid last year, which was nearly £50,000 more than former Prime Minister David Cameron.

The council currently pays 14 of its employees more than £100,000 which council leader Doug Taylor defended, stating the council needed to employ top quality staff.

The job description also stated: “We are a large, diverse, outer London Borough with inner London problems but big ambitions.”

Enfield Independent ran a story last year stating that Mr Leak was one of 14 council employees paid more than £100,000.

Mr Leak has been in the post since 2003, after his role as deputy chief executive for London Borough of Lambeth.

Prior to this, Mr Leak worked in the private sector, and in an interview with The Telegraph in 2006, advised those looking to do the same to ‘adjust salary expectations.'

Applications for the role must be in before February 10.
